Illinois football dropped their second game in a row on Saturday to fall to 1-2 on the season.

Virginia welcomed in the Illini and quickly sent us home packing by a score of 42-14. But week three is a different animal. Illinois takes on the Maryland Terrapins in what should be a fun Big Ten game on Friday night.

Illinois vs. Maryland odds for week 3

Illinois was an underdog against Virginia, and they come in as an underdog against the Terrapins as well. Maryland travels to Champaign and, according to WynnBET, Illinois is +240 on the moneyline. A $100 bet would net you $240 in profit.

The Terrapins aren’t huge favorites in the spread, though. They only have to give up 7.5 points to the Illini, which is going off at -110. So, if you put $100 on Illinois +7.5, you would net a profit of $90.91 if the Illini lose by fewer than eight points.

The over/under in the Illinois vs. Maryland game is pretty high. You are looking at an over/under of 59.5 points, which is at -110. If you take either the over or under and bet $100, you would net $90.91 if you win.

Illinois injury report vs. Maryland for week 3

Heading into the Virginia game, there was a chance Brandon Peters was going to return at quarterback for the Illini. Artur Sitkowski ended up starting in the game, though. This week against Maryland, Peters is back under center. In the Monday press conference, Bret Bielema announced Peters would be the Illinois starting quarterback against Maryland.

In addition to announcing Peters as the quarterback, Bielema also mentioned that running back Mike Epstein is out at least another four weeks. He is getting more tests in four weeks. Also, safety Sydney Brown is questionable after leaving the Virginia game with an injury. He is doing better, according to Bielema.

Illinois vs. Maryland prediction for week 3

If you are looking at the moneyline, I would go with the Terrapins straight up. Illinois’ secondary is not good right now, and Maryland can throw the ball well. I fear that the Illini won’t be able to keep up on Friday.

The spread of -7.5 is a little more enticing. I think Illinois has a chance to cover this spread but will probably fall by 10-14 points. That means I would take the Terrapins -7.5 against the Orange and Blue.

I love this over/under line for the game on Friday night. Illinois’ defense is getting shredded through the air, and Maryland’s quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has a cannon for an arm. That doesn’t bode well for Illinois shutting down Maryland. I would pound the over 59.5 points.
