3. Ty Rodgers

If I would put the list together of importance as far as roster construct goes, I would have Ty Rodgers up there close to the top, if not No. 1. This kid is the real deal and his size would help Illinois tremendously.

Rodgers is a 6-foot-7, 195-pound small forward from Grand Blanc Community High School and resides in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 65 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 18 small forward in the nation and the best player coming out of Michigan.

On September 2, Rodgers’ recruitment started to take shape. He narrowed his options down to just nine programs. The teams making his list included UConn, Alabama, Rhode Island, Memphis, Michigan State, Xavier, Marquette, Michigan, and Illinois.

Illinois looks to be in the heart of this one. Back on September 9, Illinois did an in-home visit with Rodgers, along with Michigan State and Alabama. It also looks like his official visits will be starting soon. Illinois looks to be getting an official visit from Rodgers this upcoming weekend and then he will visit Alabama in mid-October, but those reports have not been confirmed just yet.

I honestly thought Michigan would be more of a player in this recruitment, but they are not getting mentioned very often. Michigan State is the program that scares me the most considering they tend to have a stronghold on talented in-state recruits.

From the vibes I am getting, Illinois is in the top three for Rodgers. If they get an official visit, that means they are locked into the top five. But there is way too much activity on the recruiting trail for the Illini not to be one of the main players in his commitment.
