On Tuesday, Ayo Dosunmu and the Chicago Bulls continued their trek through the 2021 NBA Summer League.
After a tough first game that saw the Bulls fall to the New Orleans Pelicans 94-77, Ayo helped Chicago get back on the winning track with a big win over the San Antonio Spurs. Trailing by 15 points at halftime, the Bulls stormed back in the second half to win the game, 92-89.
Ayo was ice cold to start the game against the Spurs. By halftime, he was 0-of-3 from the field and only scored one point at the free throw line. But the former Illini guard would quickly snap back into his old self and go off in the second half.
Ayo would go 4-of-6 from the field and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe to finish the game with 10 points. The talented guard also added 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists to his 10 points on the night.
The Chicago Bulls are still alive for the summer league title due to Ayo being well-rounded.
I think everyone can agree that Patrick Williams has been the biggest scorer for the Bulls through the first two games. The guy is taking a high volume of shots and is hitting them at a high clip. To go alongside Williams, Chicago also has someone in Ayo who can do everything on the court, and it is helping the team be competitive.
Despite so many players getting minutes in the summer league – eight players averaging at least 12 minutes per game – Ayo has been able to put up some solid, well-rounded, numbers.
Currently, Ayo is No. 5 on the team in scoring averaging eight points per game. His shooting numbers are a little skewed after a rough first game, but Ayo rebounded well in game two and is now shooting 35.3-percent from the field.
In the rebounding department, Ayo is No. 3 on the team with an average of five rebounds per game. It is always a good thing to have rebounding guards. Ayo also checks in No. 3 on the team in assists with two assists per game, and he leads the team in steals with an average of two steals per game.
So, in every major statistical category, Ayo is one of the best on his summer league squad. A player who can do everything is what NBA teams love. Ayo can be that player. Hopefully, he can help lead his Bulls team to two more victories and a potential berth in the summer league title game.
