No. 2 Guard

Starter: Brandin Podziemski

It will be interesting to see who emerges as one of the go-to-guys for the Illini this upcoming season, but by the time 2022-23 rolls around, I think Brandin Podziemski will have made a name for himself. That is why I have him starting at the No. 2 spot.

Podziemski was the Wisconsin Mr. Basketball his senior year in high school. When he suits up for the Orange and Blue this season, I will look for his shooting ability to shine the most. Illinois is going to need shooters due to most of the point production departing the program. If we could get at least 10 points per game out of him this season, then he should start in 2022-23. That is my goal for Podziemski.

Backup: Luke Goode

Another player who has a chance to show what he is made of this upcoming season is Luke Goode. He is coming into the Illinois program as a sharpshooter, but there will be some solid talent at his position. As a freshman, I want to see Goode develop his body and his game for the college level.

By his sophomore year, Goode should be a primary backup who can be rotated in for multiple players. Just because I have him slotted in as the backup No. 2 doesn’t mean that is the only spot he will play. I could see Goode next to Podziemski on the floor quite a bit during their sophomore seasons. These two should form a dynamic duo in Champaign.

Backup: Reggie Bass

The second of the two class of 2022 recruits coming into the program is Reggie Bass. Year one for Bass will be a development year. He isn’t expected to contribute much, but I want to see Bass learn the speed and get the system down for the future. Look for Bass to make an impact down the road, but don’t be surprised if he takes a redshirt in year one.
