Illinois Football: Felix Hixon reaffirms Illini in top 5, commitment date set
Numerous recruits have taken an official visit to the Illinois football program, but one top target has now set a commitment date.
In total, roughly 32 recruits have decided to use one of their official visits on the Illini. That means those players see Champaign as a potential landing spot. Felix Hixon is in that group of players, and the talented defensive tackle is ready to make a decision.
After taking all five of his official visits, Hixon reaffirmed his top five of Wisconsin, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Virginia and Illinois in a tweet on Tuesday. In that tweet, Hixon also announced that he will be making his commitment on July 5.
This decision is a big deal to one of these five programs. Hixon is a 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle from Jackson High School and resides in Jackson, Georgia. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 561 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 85 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 55 player coming out of Georgia.
What are the chances the Illinois football team adds Hixon to the mix?
At this point, everything is speculation. Even the “experts” who have predictions in for where Hixon will land are just guessing.
247Sports’ “experts” think South Carolina is the landing spot, but none of them have a confidence higher than a six out of 10. That means they are purely just guessing at this point.
Illinois has Cory Patterson and Terrance Jamison as the main recruiters for Hixon. Jamison is the defensive line coach for the Illini, and he has years and years of defensive line coaching experience. The fact we are in the recruitment for Hixon bodes well for the Orange and Blue. That means there has to be a strong connection to the program.
It is interesting to see South Carolina and the fact Jimmy Lindsey is the main recruiter from the Gamecocks. He was with the Illini last season as the defensive ends coach. Now he is the lead recruiter in the Hixon sweepstakes for South Carolina.
Honestly, just the vibes I am getting, I could see Illinois and South Carolina being the top two for Hixon right now. With that being said, it is probably a 50-50 toss-up on who will emerge from as the winner. Whoever ends up landing Hixon is getting a great recruit.
