Illinois Basketball: Illini recruiting big board for 2022 as of June 14
6. Trey Pettigrew
Things on the Trey Pettigrew front have gotten kind of quiet over the past few months. He is still someone I would like to see Illinois land for the class of 2022.
Pettigrew is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound combo guard who attends Kenwood Academy and resides in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 194 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 30 combo guard in the nation and the No. 3 player coming out of the state of Illinois.
Back in June 2020, Illinois came in with an offer to Pettigrew. Since then, a few other teams have jumped on board. Pettigrew started a Fenwick High School in Illinois but transferred down to Hillcrest Prep in Arizona this past season. He is now coming back to Illinois to play at Kenwood Academy for his final season.
Prediction/Analysis
From the vibes I get, Pettigrew just wants to play ball. This kid is all about the game and left because he wanted to play in 2020-21. He is now back in the Chicago area, and this is good for the Illini.
I don’t think there is a leader for Pettigrew right now. It seems that his recruitment is going to really start taking shape toward the beginning of his senior year at Kenwood. But I do think Illinois is most likely one of the top teams vying for his skills.
The Illini will be with Pettigrew until the end, but something tells me DePaul might sneak in and take this recruitment. This isn’t based on anything but speculation, though. This just seems like one of those recruitments where Pettigrew stays really close to home and commits to the Blue Demons. Illinois is by no means out of the running, though.
