5. AJ Storr

At one time this year, Illinois basketball had two commitments for 2022. The first one is still committed in Reggie Bass. The second one, AJ Storr, is back on the market and reevaluating his recruitment.

Storr is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard from IMG Academy and resides in Bradenton, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 148 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 20 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 18 player coming out of the state of Florida.

Illinois offered Storr a scholarship back in December 2020. He decided to commit to the Illini on April 7. That commitment lasted until May 13, when Storr would back away and reopen his recruitment. A ton of offers have flooded in for Storr. He has now taken one official visit and that was to LSU last week.

Prediction/Analysis

Usually, when a player backs away from a commitment, that is the end of the relationship permanently. I don’t get that feeling with Illinois, though.

Just about three weeks after Storr backed away from the Illini, he took an unofficial visit to Champaign. The fact he visited Illinois means he still has some connection with the program. That is what still gives me hope the Illini can pull in this talented shooter.

At the end of the day, Storr did back away from his commitment to Illinois. He also took an official visit to LSU where there might be an Adam Miller sighting. Miller left the Illinois program on a bad note, so who knows what was said there. I would venture to say Illinois doesn’t end up landing Storr. But that is just speculation.
