There is still a lot of work to be done for the Illinois basketball team to complete their 2022 class.

Reggie Bass is the lone commitment so far for the Illini in 2022. He is a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 215 player in the nation. Illinois currently has the No. 31 ranked class in college basketball as well.

More players are sure to be added to the mix in the coming months, though. There are a lot of feelers out for some big-time recruits. Despite losing the majority of our coaching staff to other programs, the Illini seem to be in the hunt with many talented players.

Here is the Illinois basketball recruiting big board for 2022 as of June 14.

1. Jaden Schutt

Illinois secured a couple of players like Jaden Schutt from the class of 2021. But having a ton of wing shooters who can knock down shots from anywhere is always a good thing.

Schutt is a 6-foot-5, 175-pound shooting guard from Yorkville Christian High School and resides in Yorkville, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 114 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 14 shooting guard in the nation and the No. 3 player coming out of the state of Illinois.

Illinois was the first program to offer Schutt a scholarship. Since then, a ton of teams have taken notice. The first official visit Schutt is taking is to Michigan State this weekend. He took an unofficial visit to Illinois last Monday, though. I would imagine there is an official visit to Champaign in the near future as well.

Prediction/Analysis

I imagine the recruitment for Schutt comes down to Michigan State and Illinois. The Spartans seem to have a lead right now because of the official visit. But don’t be surprised if the Illini sneak in an official visit in the coming weeks.

Brad Underwood seems to have built a strong bond with Schutt, and this should ultimately win out in the end. I predict the Spartans will put on a good show, but Schutt will end up staying home and playing for the Illini.
