5. Cam Whitmore

One of the newer names in the past couple of weeks who I feel Illinois could gain some serious momentum with is Cam Whitmore. He is a great player from the east coast who is starting to set up unofficial and official visits.

Whitmore is a 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward from Archbishop Spalding High School and resides in Severn, Maryland. He is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 110 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 24 small forward in the nation and the No. 5 player coming out of the state of Maryland.

With roughly 14 scholarship offers, Whitmore has a lot of recruiting attention. Illinois is one of his most recent offers, though. The Illini came in with an offer to the talented wing back on May 24. Since then, his recruitment has really started to develop.

Whitmore now has an official visit scheduled for Maryland on June 4. He then has three unofficial visits set for June 11, 12 and 13 to Villanova, Pittsburgh and Penn State, respectively. But there are reports that Illinois is now getting in the mix for Whitmore. Chester Frazier is the main recruiter for Whitmore, and he was recruiting him when he was an assistant at Virginia Tech as well. So, there is already a relationship there.

Keep an eye on Whitmore’s visit schedule in the coming weeks. It wouldn’t shock me to see Illinois get, at least, an unofficial visit sometime toward the middle-to-end of June. This could be the start of something special.
