It is never too early to offer a player a scholarship, as the Illinois basketball program joined a few other teams in extending an offer to a 2024 recruit.

The class of 2022 is important, and the Illini are recruiting for that class extremely hard. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be work done for future classes. On Friday, Brad Underwood started laying the recruiting foundation for 2024 talent, Trentyn Flowers.

Flowers is a 6-foot-7, 180-pound shooting guard from Jackson County High School and resides in Jefferson, Georgia. He isn’t rated or ranked by recruiting sites just yet, as the 2024 class doesn’t have too many ranked kids. That doesn’t mean anything at this point, though.

The scholarships are already starting to flow in for the talented Georgia product. In addition to the Illinois offer, Flowers has offers from Alabama, Xavier, Georgia Tech and Florida. That is a lot of recruiting firepower for a kid who is just starting to get recruiting attention.

If I had to guess, I would say Flowers is going to be a top 50 recruit. This kid is already getting high-level DI offers and he just completed his freshman year in high school. That means Flowers is going to be really good and ranked really high in the next couple of years.

The size Flowers brings to the table would help Illinois basketball win a lot of games.

There is a ton of potential to Flowers’ game, and he still has more room to grow. But the first thing that stands out is the fact he is 6-foot-7 as a freshman. That means he has a chance to grow into a 6-foot-10 or bigger monster by his senior year.

Flowers is only entering his sophomore season, so there isn’t a ton out there on him tape-wise. He is obviously a big kid, so he is going to be able to dominate his competition as a freshman. He seems to have an okay shot and is putting in the work to become a better player. That is always a good sign.

As of right now, it is way too early to see where Flowers really excels in the game of basketball. But there is no doubt in my mind he is a top 50 recruit just by looking at his offers this early in the process. Flowers is someone to keep an eye on over the next few years to see how high he can get in the recruiting rankings.
