5. Trey Pettigrew – Guard, 6-foot-3, 175-pounds

A do-it-all guard is what Ayo Dosunmu was when he came to Illinois. The search for the next Ayo-type of player is on for the Illini. Someone like Trey Pettigrew could be the answer.

Pettigrew is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound combo guard from Eduprize High School and resides in Gilbert, Arizona. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 196 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 29 combo guard in the nation and the No. 6 player in the state of Arizona.

The recruiting attention has started for Pettigrew but more is sure to come in the next year. He has roughly six scholarship offers with the biggest coming from Illinois, Georgia and Nebraska. Illinois seems to be one of the top schools for Pettigrew, as he has mentioned he wants to visit the Illini, and the talented guard is from the Chicago area. He played for Fenwick High School before transferring down to Arizona this past season.

Pettigrew’s game hits close to home with me. He is a scrappy player who can light up the scoreboard on any given night. He has great burst into the lane and is willing to put his body on the line to get to the charity stripe. I love his three-point shot as well. The player he really reminds me of is Trent Frazier. They have the same type of feel to their game.

Illinois bringing in Frazier 2.0 would be amazing. I love Frazier and what he brings to the Illini. Pettigrew would fit seamlessly in with the Illinois roster and mentality. This would be a great addition to the team.
