Illinois basketball found out on Wednesday that they were a finalist for transfer Quincy Guerrier.

This is big news for the Illini, as they have two spots open for next season. Guerrier would bring so much to the program, but what would the Orange and Blue bring to the table for Guerrier?

Here are three reasons why Guerrier should pick the Illinois basketball program.

1. Title contender

One of the main focuses for any college basketball player is to win a national title. Guerrier wouldn’t want to go to a team that doesn’t have a chance at winning a national title. I believe Illinois can get that ring in 2022.

When Guerrier was coming out of Thetford Academy, Illinois wasn’t looked at as a title contender. We hadn’t made the NCAA tournament in nearly a half-decade, and everything seemed to be going wrong. But the past two seasons have changed the views of the program.

During the COVID-shortened 2019-20 campaign, Illinois was an NCAA tournament team and one of the best programs in the Big Ten. They showed that things were turning around with the program, and they took another step forward this past season.

The Illini won the Big Ten Tournament and then entered the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 seed. Any team coming into the postseason as one of the top four seeds has a chance at winning a title. I would imagine if Illinois was as good as they are now back when they were originally recruiting Guerrier, he probably would have picked the Orange and Blue.

Guerrier now has a chance to join a program in the Illini that has experience and knows what it takes to get to the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. He would be an extremely important piece for the Illini to get back to that point.
