The Illinois basketball program is the latest to eye a 2022 big man from the Lone Star State.

Illinois’ need for another solid big man continues to grow by the day, as there is a decent amount of uncertainty at the No. 5 spot. Some of those issues could be solved with the addition of a player like Cameron Corhen.

Corhen is a 6-foot-9, 205-pound center from John Paul II High School and resides in Allen, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 37 center in the nation. He is also the No. 28 player coming out of the state of Texas.

You may see the recruiting rankings and think Corhen isn’t a good prospect, but I look at the offers he has on the table. That gives me a better idea of how good this kid can be. Corhen currently has roughly 15 scholarship offers. In addition to the Illini, some of the bigger names to come in with an offer include the likes of Florida, Arizona State and Oklahoma. There is plenty of attention for this 2022 big man.

What would Corhen bring to the Illinois basketball program?

Let’s start off by saying, Corhen isn’t just your regular big man. He is skilled beyond belief. Corhen is listed at 6-foot-9, 205-pounds, but he is a built 205-pounds. The kid is strong inside the paint and can go up and get a rebound. I love to see that.

But Corhen is more than just a big man in the paint. He can step out and hit a shot from anywhere on the court. He has a great three-point stroke, and his touch inside 10 feet is special. There is no wonder he has a solid scholarship list that only continues to grow.

There are a couple of players who Corhen reminds me of when it comes to his game. I think immediately of Nikola Jokic. They have similar games, and Corhen will eventually grow into his body and get bigger. I think this kid has such a bright future.

This is a great offer by Illinois. It is smart getting in the mix for Corhen. He is going to end up being a top 100 recruit when it is all said and done. Let’s secure a solid Texas product and continue building.
