The Illinois basketball team continues to build for the future, offering 2023 power forward and Detroit native, Chuck Bailey,

Bailey is a prospect to watch in the years to come. The 2023 power forward was offered by Illinois on April 16, adding to a shortlist of potential schools for the future. He currently attends Higley High School in Gilbert, Arizona, after transferring from Bringham Groves due to the COVID-19 pandemic last season.

While he is not ranked by any of the major recruiting outlets, Verbal Commits believes that he’s currently a two-star recruit with tremendous upside as his high school years progress. Outside of the Orange and Blue, Bailey has interest from UNLV, Kansas, Loyola Marymount, and Detriot Mercy. That list will likely grow as he gets older.

As for Bailey’s squad, the Knights finished 10-8 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Despite finishing only two games above .500, they were able to maintain a stellar 7-3 home record that included a five-game winning streak from February 8 to February 18. Victories included Eastmark, Dysart, and North Canyon, to name a few.

The Knights’ season ended with a victory on March 5, as they defeated Campo Verde 70-66. The win capped off a final stretch in which the team won two of its final three contests.

What would Chuck Bailey bring to the Illinois basketball program?

Although Bailey is a young prospect, Brad Underwood recognizes that his program is officially back on a national stage. With more development, Bailey has the potential to become a big-time presence in any lineup.

Check out his 31-point performance against Agua Fria, as the Knights thoroughly dominated the game and came away victorious, 64-35. The sky’s the limit for what the Michigan native can bring to the West Coast hoops scene moving forward.
