Illinois basketball continues to their offseason push to reload, as there are reports that they have been in touch with a new name in the transfer market.

On Friday, Jake Lieberman of Pro Insight reported that East Tennessee State transfer Ledarrius Brewer has been contacted by a myriad of programs including the Illini. Some of the other teams to contact the guard include Texas A&M, South Carolina and Loyola-Chicago.

Coming out of Meridian High School in Mississippi, Brewer was overlooked by a number of programs. He was rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 459 player in the class of 2017. With few offers, Brewer decided to pick Southeast Missouri State.

Brewer has now spent three seasons playing college basketball, and in each season, he has put up decent numbers. As a freshman, he averaged 14.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists. In year two, he averaged 12.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2 assists per game.

When his sophomore season concluded, Brewer would end up transferring to East Tennessee State where he would play this past season. With the Buccaneers, Brewer had his best season yet. He dropped 16.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Now he is looking for a new home with two years of eligibility remaining.

What would Brewer bring to the Illinois basketball team?

Illinois needs more guard depth, and I believe Brewer could provide that from day one. I have him either as the No. 2 or No. 3 on the team, and he would be a starter.

The thing that impresses me the most about Brewer’s game is the fact he is a high-volume three-point shooter and can make them at a high clip. He hit 38.6-percent of his three-point shots this past season while taking 6.4 three-pointers per game. That is an impressive number.

I also love the shot-creating ability from Brewer. He can play with or without the ball in his hands. This kid is a playmaker in all forms. His style reminds me a lot of Kendrick Nunn in the NBA right now.

Illinois getting in contact with Brewer is a good move. He would be an amazing addition to the program and someone who can help us get back to the top of the Big Ten.
