Illinois Basketball: Illini snag first 2022 commitment in Reggie Bass
On Friday, the Illinois basketball program didn’t just win on the court, but they also managed to win off the court as well.
Illinois advanced out of the first round of the NCAA tournament with a drubbing of the Drexel Dragons. While everyone expected the Illini to win the game, the fashion in which they were victorious was nice to see.
But the success on the court was quickly followed up mere hours later with a commitment from Reggie Bass. He is a player Illinois had started to pick up some steam with and their recruiting efforts have already paid off.
Bass is a 6-foot-5, 185-pound shooting guard from Hamilton Heights Christian Academy and resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 217 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 34 shooting guard in the country and the No. 7 player coming out of the state of Tennessee.
Illinois now has their first commitment for 2022. Bass gives the Illini the No. 20 ranked recruiting class, which I am sure will change in the coming months. Illinois is likely to add a lot more talent to the mix as well. But this is a great start to what could be a special class for the Orange and Blue.
What will Bass bring to the Illinois basketball program?
I believe Illinois fans are going to love what Bass brings to the table. He has a great outside shot and the ability to get to the rim and create. He brings a lot of energy to the game of basketball as well, which is what Brad Underwood has been recruiting for the last couple of classes.
Bass’ ability to shoot from distance, his energy and his bounce, all of it reminds me a lot of Trent Frazier. Him being a southpaw might have something to do with the comparison too.
It is great Illinois is getting a similar player to Frazier in 2022 as well. We are losing so much talent in the next two years, so Bass will have a chance to come in and make an impact from day one. I don’t see him as an immediate starter, but by year two, there is a chance he is our starting No. 3 guard.
This is a great addition to the Illinois roster. I love that we are already building for the future. Underwood is a great coach, but it also helps we are, arguably, the best team in the nation. Let’s keep winning on and off the court.
