Michigan commit Kody Jones landed on the Illinois football radar for the class of 2022 with an offer from the Illini.

Jones is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete from Germantown, Tennessee, and attends Germantown High School. Jones is currently committed to Michigan from the Big Ten, but outside of the Wolverines, the Illini and several others have zoned in on the four-star prospect.

Jones is ranked as the No. 10 best athlete from the Music City while coming in at No. 21 for his age group on a national level. He was offered by the Orange and Blue and Bret Bielema’s coaching staff on March 4, as Jones took to Twitter to make the news official.

Jones successfully finished his sophomore season as a two-way player for his old school, Fairly High School, who put together a 10-3 overall record with an unblemished 8-0 finish in region play. Jones primarily played cornerback and running back for the Bulldogs, showcasing his burst of speed regardless of position. He also demonstrated his ability to intercept passes in traffic, setting up great field position in plus territory the vast majority of the time.

Jones compares his game to current NFL star, Tyrann Matthieu, according to an exclusive interview with Tomahawknation.com.

What would Kody Jones bring to Champaign if he were to flip?

A Jones flip would be a massive steal for the program. The Illini are still searching for an identity as a team and how they should be viewed amongst the rest of the conference. A four-star recruit is a rarity for the Illini, and a Jones signing could propel the team in the right direction toward future success.

His Hudl highlights, which showcase his offensive and defensive production, can be viewed below.

Jones’ recruitment may continue to heat up in the coming years, making him a prospect to keep an eye on.
