Illinois basketball might be back in the running for one of the best point guards in the country.

On Thursday afternoon, Tyty Washington posted on his Twitter account that he had decided to back away from his commitment to Creighton and reopen his recruitment. His quote from the tweet reads as follows.

"“After a lot of discussions and talking with my family & coaches, I have decided to decommit from Creighton University, and reopen my recruitment. I’d like to thank the Creighton coaching staff for the opportunities that they’ve placed before me.”"

This news is coming out after just last week Creighton head coach Greg McDermott admitted to using an inappropriate analogy to his team.

Washington reopening his recruitment is big news for the Illinois basketball team. They were in his recruitment the first time around and some thought he might end up in Champaign. But Washington ended up picking Creighton instead.

What impact would Washington have on the Illini?

This would be a huge pick-up for the Orange and Blue. Washington is a four-star point guard who is the No. 30 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 3 point guard in the nation. He would make an immediate impact on the program from day one.

Illinois also has Ayo Dosunmu leaving the program. We are going to need someone to come in and replace him in the lineup. With the addition of Washington, Illinois would add tremendous depth that would be missing due to Ayo departing.

I see the lineup next season being something like Andre Curbelo, Tyty Washington, Adam Miller, Jacob Grandison and Giorgi Bezhanishvili. That is a lineup that can contend for a Big Ten title, and they could go deep in the postseason.
