Illinois football has been on a tear when it comes to offering scholarships, and they looked to the tight end position with one of their most recent offers.

It’s fair to say that the tight end position hasn’t been a strength for the Illini in a long time. The past couple of coaching regimes didn’t use the tight end position in the passing game. But it seems that Bret Bielema and his coaching staff are looking to change that with an offer to Brody Foley.

Foley is a 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end from Anderson High School and resides in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 35 tight end in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 18 player in the state of Ohio.

Decision day for the class of 2022 is still about a year out, but that isn’t stopping Foley from receiving some solid scholarships thus far. Some of the bigger programs to offer the talented tight end besides for Illinois include Cincinnati and Indiana. More are sure to come, though.

What would Foley bring to the Illini?

Foley has the build of your typical tight end in the game of football today. He is a massive player who can use his size to go up and get the ball. He has so many great qualities to his game.

Beyond the size element, I love that Foley is always looking to make a block when he is not in a play. When he knows he isn’t getting the ball, he is still getting to the second level and looking for someone to hit. That is a player I want on the Illinois roster.

When Foley does go out for passes, he has a butter about his game. He glides through the defense and can find the soft pockets to sit in. His tight end abilities and size remind me a lot of what Travis Kelce brings to the Kansas City Chiefs.

If Illinois is going to compete in the future, they are going to need to land players like Foley. This is a great offer and, hopefully, we can add him to an already deep tight end depth chart.
