3. 2.66

Andre Curbelo has been one of the most fun players to watch since he started playing for the Illini. This kid is a wizard with the basketball and a tornado in the lane.

Sometimes Curbelo can get a little crazy with the ball. This results in turnovers at times, which can make some fans uneasy. But, most of the time, this kid is absolutely sensational.

In the win against Iowa, Curbelo was once again a huge asset to the Illini. He was everywhere on the court. He finished the game against the Hawkeyes with 8 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. I want to pluck one of those numbers out, though.

I want to mainly focus on the assist-to-turnover ratio for Curbelo. Turnovers are what people want to see decrease for the talented guard. Against Iowa, Curbelo had three turnovers. What does that mean?

It means Curbelo had a 2.66 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Every time Curbelo has one turnover, he has 2.66 assists to follow it up. That is a solid number and one that would put him in the top 100 nationally if he could average that the entire year.

Curbelo hasn’t averaged a 2.66 ATR this season. In fact, he is only at 1.80 ATR for the Illini. So, his game against Iowa was a big improvement on what he has done this season.

I look for Curbelo to continue to improve this year. The kid is learning by getting thrown into the fire. He is developing his game on the run, and this will only help the Illini down the road. By season’s end, it wouldn’t shock me to see Curbelo as one of the best point guards in the country.
