Illinois Basketball: 4 observations from the Illini win over Indiana
2. The O-fer club membership increases
As I mentioned in the previous slide, Kofi Cockburn and Ayo Dosunmu contributed 65-percent of the Illinois points in the win over Indiana. Why did they contribute so many points?
A lot of players struggled.
Adam Miller continued on the struggle bus on Saturday night. He finished the Indiana game with zero points on 0-of-4 shooting from the field, all of which were three-point attempts. Not only did he fail to score a point, but he didn’t have a single rebound, assist, block or steal. Miller finished with 2 turnovers and 1 foul on the night.
Another member of the O-fer club was Trent Frazier. The talented senior guard finished with four points but was 0-of-5 from the field and 0-of-4 from three-point land. He was 4-of-5 from the charity stripe, though. Something Miller needs to figure out is how to contribute when you are having a bad night. Frazier managed to do this by still stuffing the stat sheet with 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist.
Miller and Frazier were the two O-fer club starters on Saturday night. Illinois also had a member come off the bench in Jacob Grandison. He only played nine minutes in the game but managed to score zero points on 0-of-4 shooting from the field and was 0-of-2 from the three-point arc. He also pulled down two rebounds on the night.
Thankfully, Ayo and Kofi carried the Illini. When Miller, Frazier and Grandison go a combined 0-of-13 from the field and 0-of-10 from three-point range, Illinois probably isn’t going to win too many games. I believe we avoided disaster against Indiana.
