Illinois Basketball: Illini MVP in the win against Penn State

The Illinois basketball team defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions 98-81 on Wednesday night.

Illinois got their second conference win after beating Penn State. This game was closer than the score would indicate. The Orange and Blue got down big early but was able to come back and get the win.

The Illinois offense was clicking for a majority of this game, but the defense did not look good. Illinois was still able to get the win, though. Two players had a great game which is why there are co-MVPs in the win.

The co-MVPs of this game are going to Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn.

Dosunmu’s stats consisted of 30 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. To start the game, he wasn’t shooting too well but he still ended up 9-of-18 from the field. He also shot 2-of-5 from three-point range. Dosunmu got to the free throw line effectively as he shot 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Cockburn had an impressive game too. His stat line for this game consisted of 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 block. He had an efficient shooting performance as he shot 11-of-13 from the field. He didn’t get to the free throw line much as he only shot 1-of-3 from the line.

Cockburn got the MVP of this game because he was efficient from the field. Not to mention, he was the main reason Illinois was able to make a comeback after getting down early. Ayo got the MVP for this game because he was the most consistent player for Illinois in this game.

Illinois is now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in Big ten play. This Illinois basketball team will face off against the Indiana Hoosiers on December 26.
