3. Ahmad Robinson

I think it is fair to say the Illinois secondary was a huge weak point for the team this past season. We couldn’t stop anyone in the passing game. But getting more talent into Champaign in key. Ahmad Robinson could help with this cause.

Robinson is a 5-foot-10, 176-pound cornerback from East St. Louis High School and resides in East St. Louis, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit, ranked as the No. 500 player in the class of 2022 and is the No. 50 cornerback in the country. He is also the No. 7 player in the state of Illinois.

There aren’t a lot of pieces I like in the Illinois secondary right now. I would say Marquez Beason is going to be the best piece, by far. He is the only one who isn’t replaceable right now. That is how bad of a situation we are in with the defensive back positions.

Robinson would be a good option for Illinois. He is an in-state kid who doesn’t have a ton of recruiting attention just yet. More importantly, Bret Bielema could reestablish a strong connection with East St. Louis High School. The previous coaching regime at Illinois pretty much stopped recruiting out of this high school. That was disappointing.

Bielema has a chance to build a relationship with southern Illinois that was severely severed with the previous regime. Snagging a great defensive back like Robinson would be a step in the right direction.
