6. Dimitri Moore – Linebacker – RS Junior

I am going back to the linebacker corps with the final player on the list of transfers Illinois should pursue. Stockpiling talent at linebacker is a must, so let’s make sure we start becoming known for the talent in the middle of the defense.

Someone who would be a great addition to the Illinois linebacker corps would be Dimitri Moore. He is now available in the transfer market and is someone who will make an impact for whatever team lands him.

Moore was a three-star recruit who was the No. 670 player in the class of 2017 coming out of Cedar Hill High School. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Texas native had roughly 22 scholarship offers but ended up landing with the Vanderbilt Commodores.

In 2017, Moore took a redshirt to save a year of eligibility. Moore then earned SEC All-Freshman honors the following season as he started 10 games and played in all 13 contests. He finished that year with 84 tackles.

Moore started in nine games during the 2019 campaign and played in all 12 contests. He recorded 99 tackles on the season and was one of the best tacklers in the SEC. After playing just one game as a redshirt junior in 2020, Moore decided to enter the transfer portal.

I believe Moore would be immediately eligible wherever he ends up transferring to. I also believe he has two years of eligibility remaining as well. Illinois could really use someone like Moore on the team. He would start from day one and give some viability to an Illini linebacker corps that will be losing two starters after the 2020 campaign. Snagging Moore should be a top priority.
