Illinois Basketball: Illini MVP in the win over the Ohio Bobcats

The Illinois basketball team won a close game 77-75 against the Ohio Bobcats.

Illinois improved to 3-0 in a hard-fought game against Ohio. The Illini struggled a lot during this game, though.

The halfcourt offense couldn’t get going at times, but the Illini defense played well enough to keep them in the game. Some Illinois players struggled today, but there was one who played well and is getting the MVP.

I’m giving the MVP of this game to Ayo Dosunmu.

Dosunmu’s stats for this game consisted of 27 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1 steal. He did get sloppy with the ball as he had three turnovers. He had an efficient game as he shot 10-of-28 from the field and 1-of-4 from three-point range.

Dounmu got to the free-throw line well as he shot 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Two of the free throws he made were to give the Illini the lead with under a minute to go in the game as well.

Illinois had a couple of other players who played well. Damonte Williams and Kofi Cockburn had good games and helped the Illini defeat Ohio. But Dosunmu was Illinois’ main source of offense in this game. Not to mention, he played well on defense even though the stats don’t show it. But Dosunmu was without a doubt the most consistent Illini player on the floor against Ohio.

Illinois faced their first adversity against the Bobcats and they responded well. This Illinois basketball team will have another tough matchup awaiting them on Wednesday. They face off against the No. 2 ranked Baylor Bears.
