3. Illini continue to get great production from freshmen guards
The storyline of Wednesday’s victory was the phenomenal debut of freshman guard Adam Miller. Miller broke the record of most points scored in an Illini freshman debut by racking up 28 points in the contest.
Miller didn’t light it up as much as he did in his debut, but the guard still had a solid outing against Chicago State. He finished the game with 15 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the field (55.5-percent). Miller would also reel in two rebounds and go for a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Freshman Andre Curbelo was outstanding for the Illini coming off the bench as well. Curbelo finished second for the Illini in the scoring category, as the young guard would tally up 18 points on of 9-of-13 shooting (69.2-percent). He was relatively quiet until the second half, where he would explode, scoring 16 of his 18 points.
The freshman would also reel in seven rebounds and record a steal and an assist in the game. Curbelo got Illini Twitter excited with a transition dunk late in the second half.
The freshman guard also gave Illini fans this beautiful transition lay-up.
