One of the Illinois basketball team’s biggest targets for the class of 2021 is set to make a decision this upcoming Sunday.

A report on Twitter indicates 2021 prospect point guard Tyty Washington will announce his decision on his birthday, November 15.  Washington will be choosing between teams such as the Illini, Creighton, San Diego State, Ole Miss, and Minnesota.

Andrew Slater of The Athletic believes the decision will ultimately come down to two schools, calling it a “2 horse race” between the Illini and Creighton.

Washington is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard who is currently attending Compass Prep High School in Chandler, Arizona.  He is rated as a four-star prospect, and is ranked the No. 67 player in the nation for the class of 2021.  During his recruitment, the Arizona native reeled in 27 offers.

What would a Washington commitment mean for the Illini?

By the time 2021 rolls around, the Illini will have lost senior guards Trent Frazier and Da’Monte Williams.  Additionally, junior guard Ayo Dosunmu will likely be headed to the NBA Draft following this upcoming season, as well.

It is safe to assume incoming freshmen guards Adam Miller and Andre Curbelo will still be on the roster by the time Washington would arrive in Champaign.  Washington’s commitment would provide the Illini with another deep and talented backcourt despite losing multiple key guards.

As I had mentioned previously, Washington would be bringing a bit of everything to Champaign. He has all the tools one would want in a point guard.  He can score from all levels of the court and is an unselfish player who is exceptional at dishing out dimes to the open man.

The 2021 point guard is capable of taking over a game at any given moment.  His film speaks for itself.

Washington would be joining lone 2021 commit Luke Goode, another exceptional scorer, as a member of the Illini’s 2021 recruiting class.
