3. Wesley Cardet Jr.

There are not a lot of options left for the Illinois basketball team for the class of 2021. That is why keeping in the running for Wesley Cardet Jr. is extremely important.

The 6-foot-6, 175-pound combo-guard from Orlando, Florida has really started to garner a ton of recruiting attention the past year or so. With roughly 17 scholarship offers, Cardet is going to have his pick of a solid power-five conference program.

While it seems like Alabama is the front-runner for Cardet’s commitment, which might not be the case. He may end up with the Crimson Tide, but there are still a handful of teams left in the race for his services. One of those teams, I believe, is Illinois.

Recent recruiting activity suggests that Kansas State is going to have a say in where Cardet ends up playing. Just this past weekend, the Wildcats had a Zoom call with the talented guard. But Illinois has also been working the virtual visits. Brad Underwood and the Illini coaching staff did a Zoom call with Cardet back on October 14.

So, Illinois is putting in the resources to land Cardet, and it seems like they could be there at the end. Adding someone like Cardet to the guard rotation would help this Illini team tremendously.
