The Illinois basketball program continues to build for the future, as they offered point guard Jeremiah Johnson from the 2023 class.

The recruiting train keeps on rolling for Illinois, as they offered Jeremiah Johnson from the 2023 class this past Tuesday. Johnson, a 6-foot-5,160-pound point guard, hails from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and attends Putnam City North High School.

Johnson doesn’t have any Crystal Ball projections or an official rating, but he is garnering interest from some of the nation’s elite programs. Including the Illini, Johnson has looks from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Tulsa to name a few.

Jeremiah Johnson is a YouTube sensation.

If fans search “Jeremiah Johnson” on YouTube, a plethora of results appear. These include his freshman highlight tape and an open-gym run from when he was in sixth grade, which has eclipsed over 10,000 views since it was uploaded four years ago.

According to the video description, Johnson enjoyed a stellar 2019-2020 season. His accolades included First-Team All-Conference, conference newcomer of the year, an All-State honorable mention, and a big all-city third-team selection.

Johnson shot 44-percent from behind the three-point arch, averaging 16 points and 3rebounds per game for the Panthers.

Though he is only entering his sophomore year, Johnson is already showing that he has the potential to become the next great high school point guard from Oklahoma. Three minutes and 14 seconds of big-time blocks, clutch shots, dunks, and a whole lot more are a sign of things to come for the young prospect.

The Illini are preparing for its biggest season in over a decade, and potentially snagging a prospect like Johnson will only help the program progress forward toward future success in Champaign for years to come. Don’t be surprised if his recruitment continues to get bigger in the coming years, as he is only getting better.
