The Illinois basketball team continues to focus on the future after offering a dynamic 2021 wing.

Kordell Charles announced on Twitter Monday that he has been offered by the Fighting Illini. Charles is a 6-foot-8, 190-pound wing currently attending IMG Academy, located in Bradenton, FL.

The 2021 prospect is a three-star recruit who is ranked the No. 146 player in the entire class of 2021.  Additionally, Charles is ranked the No. 19 prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 31 overall small forward prospect.  Illinois is Charles’ seventh offer, as the 2021 wing also holds offers from USC, Tulsa, Ohio, and others.

What would Charles bring to the table for the Fighting Illini?

Versatility.  Charles would be a reliable scorer in Brad Underwood’s offense as he possesses the ability to score from all levels of the floor.  His film proves that not only can he shoot from both beyond the arc and from mid-range, but can also finish under the basket with authority.

Charles has miraculous handles and uses them to create a path to score in the paint.  The IMG Academy wing’s tape also shows he loves to dunk the ball whether its a slam-dunk or an ally-oop.

Additionally, the 2021 prospect uses every bit of his 6-foot-8 frame to his advantage.  Charles puts his strength on display by using his body to create scoring opportunities down low and is not afraid to score off of contact.  He is an exceptional shot-blocker, as well.

Charles could play at either the No. 3 or No. 4 positions in Underwood’s offense.  The wing is his primary position, and he absolutely would excel in this role for the Illini.  Coach Underwood has also shown that he loves to go with the “small ball” lineup, so there is the possibility Charles would see a lot of minutes at the No. 4 position.
