Illinois Football: Crystal Ball pick placed on Illini target Cole Kirkpatrick
It looks like the Illinois football team might be a step closer to landing one of the most under-the-radar recruits I have seen in years.
This past Friday, Jeremy Werner of 247Sports decided to place a Crystal Ball prediction on wide receiver Cole Kirkpatrick. Werner is predicting that Illinois will be the eventual landing spot for the talented pass catcher and put a five out of 10 confidence on the selection.
The new Crystal Ball prediction is an interesting development in Kirkpatrick’s recruitment. The 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver just received an offer from Illinois about a week ago on September 29. So, the connection between Kirkpatrick and the Illini seems to be close already.
Illinois being a leader in the clubhouse right now for Kirkpatrick doesn’t come as a surprise, though. Illini wide receiver coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker is leading the recruitment. He has strong ties down in the Lone Star State, which is why I believe the Orange and Blue might win out here.
But Kirkpatrick’s recruitment isn’t anywhere near being complete. He still has a senior year to finish up at Argyle High School. During this campaign, it wouldn’t shock me to see him put up massive numbers and garner even more recruiting attention. It would be silly for teams in the state of Texas to not offer this kid a scholarship.
Overall, I am keeping the excitement for the five out of 10 on the Crystal Ball low. That is the middle of the road as far as predictions are concerned. Hopefully, Werner ends up being right and Illinois lands Kirkpatrick. He would be a great pick up for this program.
