It looks like there might be a change in momentum when it comes to one of the Illinois basketball team’s biggest recruiting targets.

Over the past month, Jordan Nesbitt’s recruitment has started to come to a finish. He ended up cutting his list down to three teams back on September 18, which included Saint Louis, Memphis and Illinois. But things weren’t looking good for the Illini.

A one-time hard Illinois lean, Nesbitt seemed to be fading away from the Illini. 247Sports “experts” had Saint Louis as the eventual landing spot, and it seemed like a consensus pick. The most recent Billikens pick was back on September 14, so it was within the last two weeks.

But, on Thursday, the tides seemed to change. Some of the same “experts” who had Nesbitt heading to Saint Louis now have him committing to a different program. Who do they have snagging the talented wing?

Illinois.

Yes, three different “experts” at 247Sports now have Nesbitt landing with the Orange and Blue. This is exciting news considering the class of 2021 was looking a bit bare without someone like Nesbitt committing to the program. But that may all be changing now.

There is also a decision on the horizon for Nesbitt. He announced that the decision on where he will be playing his collegiate basketball will come on October 1, which is next Thursday. This will be a huge day for one of the three teams on his list.

Obviously, this would be a huge pick-up for Illinois. I never thought this recruitment was over because Illinois had been there the entire time. It is nice that Saint Louis was able to snag a couple of solid players in the last few years, but Illinois has had a strong connection with Nesbitt throughout his recruitment.

It doesn’t shock me to see Illinois as the predicted landing spot for Nesbitt. I imagine Champaign is where he will end up landing. He would add to a class of 2021 that is already started by Luke Goode. The next domino to fall needs to be a big man, and you know who I am talking about.
