Left Tackle

Starter: Vederian Lowe

This is one of the best Illinois offensive lines that I have ever seen. Vederian Lowe is a part of that offensive line. He should be starting at left tackle again in 2020.

Lowe, a 6-foot-6, 320-pound Rockford, Illinois native, is back in his usual role protecting the Illinois quarterbacks. Coming into the Illinois program, Lowe was thrown into the mix as earned All-Freshman Team honors in the Big Ten. In 2018 and 2019, Lowe started all 25 games for the Orange and Blue and will continue starting games until he departs the program.

Primary Backup: Brevyn Jones

Illinois received offensive lineman Brevyn Jones via the transfer market this offseason. The 6-foot-5, 270-pound big man decided to look for a new home after one year at Mississippi State. He redshirted that season and was able to come to Champaign and become immediately eligible.

I see Jones as a primary backup to Lowe at the left tackle position. This is where he could cut his teeth and help the program the most. After Lowe departs, Jones could step into the starting role. Look for Jones to really develop nicely as a redshirt freshman in 2020.

Backup: Josh Plohr

The third-string offensive tackle would then be Josh Plohr. The class of 2019 snag for Lovie Smith should be able to give stability to the offensive line depth chart. Plohr is a 6-foot-3, 300-pound St. Louis native who took a redshirt last year. He is another offensive lineman who I want to see take a step forward in progression this season.
