Right Guard

Starter: Verdis Brown

There are some people who would argue with having Verdis Brown in a starting role, but I have him stepping up and starting at the right guard spot for Illinois in 2020. He should be ready to take over a bigger position with the talent that he possesses.

Brown, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound offensive lineman, was one of the best players coming out of the class of 2018. He took a redshirt in year one and then flipped from defensive tackle back to the offensive line in 2019. Brown was a backup his redshirt freshman campaign, and now I think it is time to fill the void at right guard. I believe Brown should be starting for the Illini.

Primary Backup: Blaise Sparks

Illinois managed to snag a few bruisers in the class of 2020. One of the great big men in this class was Blaise Sparks. A North Fort Myers, Florida native, Sparks was the No. 1972 player in the class of 2020 and a great get from the Sunshine State.

Sparks should be able to come in and cut his teeth early on for the Illini. I have him as the primary backup to Brown at right guard. It wouldn’t shock me to see Sparks move around the offensive line, though. His 6-foot-7, 301-pound frame can work for just about any spot.

Backup: Kevin Tyler

Another great offensive line get for the Illini from the class of 2020 was Kevin Tyler. There were a ton of teams vying for Tyler’s commitment, but Illinois was able to land the talented big man.

Tyler, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound St. Louis native, should come in and compete for snaps. I have him as the third-string right guard, but he could rise on the depth chart quickly. I see Tyler as a quick developing offensive lineman for the Illini.
