Brad Underwood and the Illinois basketball program moved one step closer to adding to their class of 2021 on Friday morning.

A variety of players have been on the Illini radar over the last year or so, but Luke Goode remains the lone commitment for 2021. That could all change if the Orange and Blue can manage to land talented top 100 recruit, Jordan Nesbitt.

Nesbitt, a 6-foot-6, 180-pound small forward from St. Louis, Missouri, is rated as a four-star recruit and the No. 73 player in the class of 2021. The talented forward checks in as the No. 13 small forward in the nation and the second-best player coming out of Missouri.

On Friday morning, Nesbitt announced on Twitter that he was down to just three teams vying for his commitment. The three programs that made his top list include the likes of Saint Louis, Memphis and Illinois.

As of right now, the momentum for Nesbitt seems to be heading toward Saint Louis. Multiple “experts” on 247Sports predicted the Billikens as the land spot back in August. In the last week, two different 247Sports “experts” have put their Crystal Ball predictions in and also went with Saint Louis.

There is just under two weeks – October 1 – until Nesbitt makes his final decision. It is looking like Saint Louis will win this one, but I never count Illinois out until it is over.

The Illini need a player like Nesbitt too. Snagging a 6-foot-6 forward who can play the No. 3 or No. 4 would enable Underwood to have more flexibility in with the lineup and rotations.

Nesbitt is one of the top priorities for the Illini, but there are other wings out there who could help this team too. It looks like the Billikens are the landing spot, but let’s see the push Illinois can make the next couple of weeks.
