Potential

As I said in the previous slide, the future of the No. 2 guard spot is looking pretty good with Adam Miller for the next couple of years and then Luke Goode taking over after that. But what type of potential does Illinois have to bring in more shooting guard talent?

For the class of 2021, the Illini have already landed Goode, who should be sensational for the program.  A northeast Indiana top 100 recruit has never committed to the Illini. He will be exciting to watch in Champaign. I believe Goode is it at this position for 2021.

In 2022, there will be a couple of talented shooting guards up for grabs. Two of the biggest targets would be Zion Cruz and Jaden Schutt. Cruz is more of a long shot with some of the biggest programs in the nation vying for his services. He is the No. 19 player in 2022 and comes from the high school powerhouse, Oak Hill Academy.

Schutt is a strong possibility, though. Illinois is using a lot of resources on recruiting Schutt and he is an in-state kid. He is also the No. 85 player in the class of 2022. Having him come into the program as a backup to Goode would be amazing for the Illini.

Getting someone like Schutt or Cruz would solidify the No. 2 spot on the Illinois roster for years to come. They are the two I am eyeing from the class of 2022. In regards to 2023, the rankings aren’t out yet, so it is hard to see who is an option right now. But, let’s just say, Illinois is looking good at shooting guard over the next five years.
