No. 2 Guard

Starter: Adam Miller

Much like the No. 1 guard spot, the No. 2 guard spot is about as locked up as you could get it. Adam Miller is going to take this Illinois program by storm this upcoming season and should be a superstar by year two. That is when Brad Underwood is going to need him the most. Miller will be asked to do a lot this upcoming season, but the team will be on his shoulders as a sophomore.

Miller has a lot of clout coming to Champaign. He was a great player for Morgan Park High School, which is where Ayo Dosunmu played as well. Miller burst onto the national scene, and recruiting sites took notice. He finished his high school career ranked inside the top 35 in his class, which goes down as one of the highest-rated recruits in program history. The No. 2 guard spot for the Illini is the most set position we have on the team.

Backup: Luke Goode

One of the reasons why I am so comfortable with the No. 2 guard spot is the fact we have depth at the position. It is nice having Miller starting in this role, but Illinois needs someone who can come in and spell minutes for the talented guard. That someone is Luke Goode.

Goode isn’t as heralded at Miller when it comes to the recruiting rankings. He is currently the lone recruit Illinois has landed for 2021, but the kid is extremely talented. He ranks inside the top 90 in his class and is a sharpshooter. Illinois landing someone from northeast Indiana is a big deal too. We beat out teams like Michigan State, Indiana and Purdue for this kid. I can’t wait to see what he can do for the Illini.
