Another player has cut his top list and this time the Illinois basketball team is benefiting.

There have been a handful of players who I think are strong possibilities for Brad Underwood and the Illini to land for the class of 2021. We already have Luke Goode signed up. He is going to be a great scoring threat. But now we need someone like Brandon Weston to join the fight.

Weston is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound small forward from Morgan Park High School and resides in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 60 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 11 small forward in the nation. He is also the No. 3 player in the state of Illinois.

Illinois had been rumored as a strong lean for Weston, and on Monday morning, he decided to narrow the scope of his recruitment. Weston is now looking at six programs, and the six teams vying for his commitment include Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Michigan, Western Illinois, Seton Hall and Illinois.

I love Weston’s game on the court. This kid is smooth and glides through the paint. He has a good shot from outside of 10 feet, but he does his best work around the hoop. I think he would be a great fit on this Illinois team that is filled with good shooters. He could be more of a slasher.

Where would Weston fit in on the Illinois roster?

I believe Weston would contribute to the program right away. You don’t redshirt players who are top 70 in their respective class. I believe he could see starts in year one but would be in more of a timeshare.

As of right now, I would have Luke Goode as the backup at the No. 3 spot. If Weston picks Illinois, he would take over the primary backup duties to Jacob Grandison. They would be in a timeshare that season. I would then shift Goode over to the primary backup at the No. 2 spot.

Being in the top six is huge. Illinois needs to land Weston. We have a strong connection to both his AAU team, Mac Irvin Fire, and his high school team in Morgan Park. Let’s land the talented wing and continue building.
