There are great players who come through Champaign, Illinois every once in a while.

Some of the great players who come to mind include Malcolm Hill. He had a buttery shot and was a nice wing piece for the Illinois basketball team. Brandon Paul was someone who could put a massive amount of points on the board. Demetri McCamey could dish out assists like it was his job. These three and more have been great for this program.

But then you run into the rare special player. The player who has that something that won’t just translate at the college level but will also be something solid in the NBA. These players don’t come around very often.

Meyers Leonard was one of those players. He had the size and athletic ability to do some great things wherever he played. Deron Williams was another player of this ilk. He was the entire package in college and should have had a Hall of Fame NBA career.

And now we have Ayo Dosunmu. He is a type of player that comes around every once in a decade, at best. Ayo has the talent to be great in college and in the NBA. Illinois fans get to experience this talent for one more year, and that is exciting.

The improvements Ayo made from year one to year two is quite impressive. The kid clearly worked hard on his game and it shows. There are a few numbers to keep an eye on too.

Here are four stats to watch for Illini guard Ayo Dosunmu.
