The last 24 hours have been pretty good for the Illinois football team and they only keep getting better.

On Wednesday, the Illini received word that Daniel Imatorbhebhe is transferring into the program to play his final season with the Orange and Blue. And then, on Thursday, Illinois landed in the top four for talented safety, Maurice Freeman.

Freeman is a 6-foot, 190-pound safety from Oscar Smith High School and resides in Chesapeake, Virginia. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1139 player in the class of 2021 and the No. 91 safety in the nation. He is also the No. 31 player in the state of Virginia.

The offers were there for Freeman, but he decided to announce that he was down to four programs on Twitter. The four teams vying for his commitment include Appalachian State, Ole Miss, Indiana and Illinois. This would be a nice pick up for any of these four teams.

What does Freeman bring to the football field?

Freeman is a menace on the field. This kid has so much raw power in his game. Watching him at Illinois destroy the opposing team would be fun. But it isn’t just about power with Freeman.

I believe Freeman’s speed sets him apart. He can change directions and get to the offensive player quicker than most I have watched. That is a great attribute to have as a defensive back.

It looks like Freeman was a hybrid player with Oscar Smith High School. He would play the safety position but was also on the end of the defensive line a lot. This is the type of player that Lovie Smith and the Illinois coaching staff love to have on the team.

If Freeman picks Illinois, I see him coming in and making an impact from day one. I think the best position to put him in would be free safety. This would give him the flexibility to move around the field and be a nightmare.

Next. Daniel Imatorbhebhe should make instant impact on Illini. dark

I love that the Illini are in the mix for a talented player like Freeman. Let’s see how this top four plays out. The area around Virginia hasn’t exactly been a strong point for Illinois recruiting.
