Who is four-star recruit and Illinois basketball target Colin Smith?

Colin Smith is one of Illinois’ latest recruiting targets for the 2022 class. The 6-foot-7, 185-pound small forward plays for St. Mark’s High School in Dallas, Texas, and currently holds offers from Baylor, Kansas, and Michigan. Smith is a four-star recruit with the potential to gain more buzz as he enters his 2020 junior season.

Smith’s St. Mark’s squad posted a 29-4 record and an undefeated conference season, propelling the Lions to a state championship victory against Houston Christian, 85-67, this past season.

Smith received an offer from the Orange and Blue at the beginning of July, offering a high-level skill set and championship talent that is vital for the Illini to remain successful.

As a sophomore, Smith averaged 21.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, as he was one of many contributors of the Lions’ championship season. The expectations remain high for Smith, who recognizes that he has not even reached his full potential yet.

"“They really like my versatility and that I also defend at a high level,” Smith told KARK. “With all the things I do well it increases my chances to be on the floor and to keep working on my game.”"

The Tale of The Tape

If Smith’s game continues to improve, the skies the limit. He has shown flashes of consistency as a two-way player on both sides of the floor and can capitalize on clutch moments whenever possible.

If Underwood and company could land Smith, he would join Andre Curbelo and Adam Miller, as both would be in their junior seasons, making for an exciting trio of prolific scorers and finishers for years to come.

The future of the program looks bright, as Curbelo and Miller are part of a highly anticipated class that looks to return to the NCAA tournament in 2021.
