3. Roster availability

Illinois looks to have a pretty solid roster heading into the upcoming 2020-21 campaign. There are two scholarships to play with and many fans are hoping Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn fill those two spots left on the team.

But the future is what Brad Underwood and the Illini coaching staff have to think about. After sitting out a year, the 2021-22 season is the first year Ben Stanley would be suiting up for whatever team he picks. This would be a great year to come into the Illinois program.

As I am looking at the roster for 2021, I realize there are three spots left for the Illini coaching staff to fill. Even with Ayo and Kofi coming back this year, they both will be gone after the upcoming season. With that being said, there are no guarantees that Adam Miller and Andre Curbelo aren’t one and done as well.

At this point, I am not even talking about playing time for Stanley on the Illinois basketball team. I am talking about Underwood needing bodies to fill out the roster. We need players who can come in and be immediate impact guys. This program is going to need talent to help seamlessly transition from one era of Illinois basketball to another.

I think Stanley could do that for the Illini. He is someone who has the experience and can be a big piece to the puzzle.
