Another weekend is about the in the books and another top list the Illinois football team finds themselves on.

A tall playmaker is something Illinois needs to add to the class of 2021. We have a good haul of pass catchers on the team and being added for the future, but I want someone who can be a big target in the red zone. That is what Chevalier Brenson could provide for the program.

Brenson is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver from Christian Brothers College High School and resides in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a three-star recruit who has a Rivals rating of 5.6, which means he is a solid middle of the pack three-star.

On Saturday night, Brenson wanted to narrow the scope of his recruitment. He had roughly 19 scholarship offers on the table but has now cut his list down to just six teams. The six programs making his top list include Colorado State, Kansas State, Toledo, Ball State, Memphis and Illinois.

The tape on Brenson is what I wanted to see. This kid has been the big target for Christian Brothers, and that is what I want him to be for the Illini. The quarterback seems to just throw Brenson the ball, and he is able to go up and get it.

I still believe this kid is pretty raw, though. There is a ton of room to grow, which should be scary for opposing teams.

Where would Brenson fit in on the Illinois roster?

The Illini currently have two committed wide receivers for 2021 in Theodore Lockley and Pat Bryant. Illinois is also starting to build some depth at this crucial position.

Honestly, I am becoming more comfortable with how the depth chart is looking for 2021. I have incoming transfer Brian Hightower, Donny Navarro and Casey Washington all starting. James Frenchie, Edwin Carter and Kyron Cumby as the main backups. They are all pretty young too.

I see Brenson redshirting year one without a doubt. This will enable him to learn better technique while saving a year of eligibility. We don’t need him right away. By his redshirt sophomore year, I see this kid potentially starting for the Orange and Blue. I believe the sky is the limit for Brenson.
