34. Anthony Higgs (Old: 3-star/0.8578 – New: 3-star/0.8123)

Brad Underwood has had some success with developing recruits who weren’t on the radar for many programs. There are a few players who come to mind when thinking about development. A player many thought could have done some good things for the program was Anthony Higgs.

Higgs was a 6-foot-8, 200-pound small forward coming out of Perry Hall High School and residing in Baltimore, Maryland. He was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 393 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 90 small forward in the nation. He also had a composite rating of 0.8578.

Illinois was able to land Higgs, but he didn’t see the floor in year one with the program. Higgs went down with a foot injury before the season started. A couple of months into the campaign, Higgs was then redshirted and made to sit for the year.

After one redshirt season with Illinois, Higgs decided to take his talents elsewhere. That elsewhere remains to be seen, though. I can’t seem to find if or where he played for the 2019-2020 campaign. There aren’t any stats or a commitment.

I think there was potential for Higgs to actually improve on his recruiting rating. He entered Illinois as a three-star recruit with a rating of 0.8578. I believe that number should be adjusted to a three-star recruit with a rating of 0.8123. The potential was there, but he couldn’t stick around long enough to find out how high the ceiling could be.
