1. Ayo Dosunmu (Old: 4-star/0.9888 – New: 5-star/0.9925)

True legends don’t come around the Illinois basketball program that often. We had a terrible drought for about a decade where you can’t consider any player a legend. But that all changed in the class of 2018 when Ayo Dosunmu joined the team.

Ayo was a 6-foot-4, 172-pound combo guard from Morgan Park High School and residing in Chicago, Illinois. He was rated as a four-star recruit who was the No. 32 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 3 combo guard in the nation. He also had a composite rating of 0.9888.

The first year for Ayo was sensational on paper. Despite the team not being very good, Ayo still put up 13.8 points, 4 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. You could tell this kid was going to be special for the Illinois program.

During his sophomore year is when everything started to happen for Ayo and the Illini. He averaged 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The team was successful as well. This had a lot to do with Ayo and his big shots at the end of games. He was our closer.

Ayo, much like Kofi Cockburn, has declared for the NBA Draft but hasn’t hired an agent. We are all in a holding pattern until the decision of these two all-time greats is made.

Even if Ayo doesn’t play another game for Illinois, he is one of the best players to ever come through Champaign. He is the best player we have had in the 2010s as well. He entered the college ranks as a four-star with a rating of 0.9888. I am actually bumping him up to a five-star with a rating of 0.9925. This kid is a legend.
