5. Malcolm Hill (Old: 4-star/0.9713 – New: 4-star/0.9723)

Illinois basketball saw the dark ages during the mid-2010s. These were not good times for the program as we continued to miss postseason after postseason. But there was some light during this ugly time. Malcolm Hill was one of those lights.

Hill was a 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard coming out of Belleville-East High School and residing in Belleville, Illinois. He was rated as a four-star recruit who was the No. 70 player in the class of 2013 and the No. 22 shooting guard in the nation. He also had a composite rating of 0.9713.

I would say Hill was professionalism personified. This kid was a hard hat and lunch pail type of player. He put up some big numbers on some average to below-average Illinois teams too. But don’t let that fool you into thinking this kid wasn’t special.

Hill would end up averaging 13.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while with the Illini. He did end up spending all four years at Illinois too. In three of those four seasons, Hill averaged over 14 points per game. That is an impressive stat.

It is hard to say if Hill should fall or get a bump in his rating. I think him being a four-star recruit with a rating of 0.9713 is pretty close to correct. I guess I would give him a slight bump up to a four-star with a rating of 0.9723. This kid will be in Illinois record books for the rest of time.
