25. Austin Colbert (Old: 3-star/0.9110 – New: 3-star/0.8566)

I believe this will be the third-straight class of 2013 player on this re-ranking list for Illini recruits in the 2010s. This class had potential to be solid, but it didn’t live up to the expectations. One player who was highly ranked from this class was Austin Colbert.

Colbert was a 6-foot-9, 205-pound power forward coming out of Gill St. Bernard High School and residing in Lakeville, Connecticut. He was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 124 player in the class of 2013 and the No. 28 power forward in the nation. He also had a composite rating of 0.9110.

There were a lot of programs coming after Colbert. Some of the bigger names to offer the kid a scholarship were Miami (FL), Villanova and Seton Hall. But the Illini came out on top.

Colbert’s career was short-lived with the Illini. He spent two seasons with the program and failed to see a single start. His averages with Illinois included 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. After his sophomore season, Colbert decided to transfer out of the Champaign.

Old Dominion was Colbert’s next stop, but he never played a game with The Monarchs. He would transfer out of Old Dominion and eventually landed with Hampton. In the two years he spent with the Pirates, Colbert started in two games and averaged 1.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per contest.

This was a case where the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Colbert came into the program as a three-star with a rating of 0.9110. I believe he should be downgraded to a three-star with a rating of 0.8566.
