27. Maverick Morgan (Old: 3-star/0.8946 – New: 3-star/0.8451)

The first class John Groce was able to pull in for the Illinois basketball program was actually pretty solid. This class seemed to have some decent talent, and it included a big man named Maverick Morgan. He looked to be the future at the No. 5 for the Orange and Blue.

Morgan was a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center coming out of Springboro High School and residing in Springboro, Ohio. He was rated as a three-star recruit who was the No. 152 player in the class of 2013 and the No. 13 center in the nation. He also had a rating of 0.8946.

There were plenty of other schools who were eyeing Morgan, but Groce was able to land the big man. It did help that Groce just came from Ohio University and Morgan was from the state of Ohio. That connection brought the big man to Illinois.

Morgan spent all four years of his playing career with the Illini. He was a reserve the first couple of seasons, but he then took a more prominent role and started 40 games in his final two years with the program. While at Illinois, Morgan averaged 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

I would say Morgan being a three-star with a rating of 0.8946 coming into the college ranks wasn’t too far off. I would probably adjust that a little bit and back him down to a three-star with a rating of 0.8451.
