The Illinois basketball team decided to pull the trigger on Ramel Lloyd Jr. in regards to offering him a scholarship.

Recruiting season is in full force as the days in June continue to fly by. Illinois is no exception, as Ramel Lloyd Jr., a member of the class of 2022 and a stand-out small forward, becomes one of the school’s latest offers.

Lloyd Jr. is a rising four-star recruit who made the difficult decision to transfer from Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California to a Dream Christian Academy in Glendale, Arizona to finish his high school career. The transition serves as a unique opportunity for a fresh start and an opportunity to play, due to the uncertainty of the global pandemic.

Lloyd Jr. has proven that he can come up clutch in huge games. This was no more evident than a 27-point performance as a member of Taft, where they won 74-48. Lloyd Jr. was also voted California’s best player of the week by his peers and fans alike.

With more offers coming in, such as Washington, Oklahoma State and Rutgers, Lloyd Jr will be a popular get by the time his senior season rolls around.

The Tale of the Tape

Lloyd Jr. recognizes that he has an opportunity to become a household name. He has seen Jalen Green, a California standout and the country’s No. 1 player, forego college basketball and pursue the NBA’s G-League to hopefully create other ways of going pro.

If Lloyd Jr picks the Orange and Blue and decides to play for Brad Underwood, he will join a program that is looking to build momentum and contend for a national championship. He would also join some elite company with

Coleman Hawkins,

Adam Miller,

Andre Curbelo

, and

Luke Goode,

which could make for a scary tandem as the years progress.
