Who is three-star recruit and Illinois football target Chase Lowery?

Lowery is a 6-foot,180-pound cornerback out of Frisco, Texas. The 2021 three-star recruit has looks from Illinois, Arizona, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Hawaii and Houston, to name a few.

Most recently, the Illini offered Lowery, showing once again that the coaching staff is hard at work, even during unpredictable circumstances.

Entering his senior season, Lowery plays for Frisco High School and was part of an 11-2 squad that won its first seven games, including a 76-28 thrashing of Lebanon Trail.

While the team had a successful season, so did Lowery. Playing both sides of the ball, specifically wide receiver on offense, he caught 31 passes and brought in seven total touchdowns. On defense, he had 34 solo tackles and averaged nearly four tackles per game.

The Tale of the Tape

On film, Lowery is a playmaker. He reads the open field really well and is difficult to bring down. He also has great hands and can catch the ball from anywhere. He reminds me a lot of Ricky Smalling because of their speed similarities and route-running ability.

At cornerback, Lowery is a ball hawk and always finds the end zone, as the majority of his highlights were epic touchdowns that left me wanting a lot more.

Even though Lowery released his top 11 back in May, which did not include Illinois, I think his presence would fit perfectly on a team that will see a lot of new faces in the coming years. Hitting Texas and Florida is starting to pay dividends for the coaching staff, and this would be another exciting addition for the Orange and Blue.

Illinois hopes to return to a bowl game this fall, looking to exact revenge from last year’s bitter defeat in Santa Clara, California. For now, only time will tell.
